Before you decide to study or live in Australia, health insurance should be your utmost priority. In Australia, there are mainly two types of health insurance that international students may apply for. One is the Overseas Visitor Health Cover (OVHC) that is for, and the other is Overseas Student Health Care (OSHC).
The OVHC is health insurance for those visiting and/or working in Australia on a temporary visa. This policy requires you to make arrangements for a minimum health insurance level before your visa grant. You are also responsible for keeping this insurance for you and your dependents, for the entirety of your stay in Australia.
The OSHC, on the other hand, is health insurance for international students studying in Australia, and can only be made by health insurers who have an agreement with the “Deed for the Provision of Overseas Student Health Care.” The deed sets out what the insurers must cover and what they do not cover.
